DJ Misfit’s Top 10 Tips

  1. Stick to your guns. Do not do anything that is not you or makes you feel uncomfortable just for fame.
  2. Know your music, what genre you want to play and what message you want to send out.
  3. Do your research for any gig you’re booked for where you haven’t been. Find out what the vibe is like, what the people love to listen to and how you can educate them during your set.
  4. Network, network, network and go support other gigs that are in line with the genre or movement that you believe in too.
  5. Treat your DJ career like any other profession. Take it seriously and they will take you seriously.
  6. Have confidence in yourself.
  7. Be a music fan first. Don’t just do it for fame because chances of you lasting in the industry then, are slim.
  8. The hustle is not easy. Go from door to door. Knock and keep knocking. Someone will open eventually.
  9. Stay focused. Remember why you started.
  10. If possible, practice your art and get better at it.
